    Federal assistance approved for three Oklahoma counties after severe weather

    Okla. — After recent severe weather hit Oklahoma, the White House approved the state's request for disaster assistance for three hard-hit counties.

    Governor Stitt announced the federal aid Wednesday. The designation delivers FEMA assistance for housing, low interest loans for property repair, disaster unemployment and grants.

    The disaster assistance helps individuals and business owners impacted by severe weather in Hughes, Love and Murray Counties. The state can request assistance for more counties as damage is tracked.

    FEMA surveyed the damage , over 200 houses damaged in Hughes, Love, and Murray counties, of which 58 homes had major damage and 136 were destroyed. Four people died and nearly 300 were injured.

    "I appreciate the support and quick action from the White House and FEMA in approving Oklahoma's request for federal disaster assistance in the wake of devastating storms," Governor Stitt said. "As damage assessments continue, I will request aid for all counties that suffered losses to homes or businesses, whether from tornadoes, flooding, or other severe weather."
