CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – We are officially one month out from the 2024 Hurricane Season. This month, the men and women of the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) are doing their part to help citizens prepare before any storm systems hit our radar.
“We hope all of our residents take advantage of the great information we will be sharing via graphics and videos on our social media pages and by attending our “All Hazards Expo” on May 11th at the Crystal River Armory,” said CCSO.
Throughout Get Prepared Citrus, CCSO will inform our citizens of the following:
How to “Know your zone.”
What to pack in a “Go bag.”
Ways to prepare for ANY hazard.
How to use the CCSO app.
Other pertinent information that can save your life this season.
“Unfortunately, every year, we see hundreds of our residents fail to prepare ahead of time, which leaves them frantically trying to gather necessities such as food and water as a storm approaches,” said Sheriff Mike Prendergast. “Some don’t even bother to act at all – choosing to ignore mandatory evacuation order putting their lives, and ultimately, that of our first responders at risk.”
The Emergency Management Division builds a comprehensive preparedness program that focuses on five missions: prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery.
This division is the lead coordinator of emergency and disaster response activities. These response activities aim to preserve life, mitigate hazards, preserve property, and restore social functions.
Emergency Management is key to preparing and protecting the community. In the event of an emergency, be sure to monitor the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook and Twitter pages, or download our CCSO app for live updates and safety recommendations.
