Man makes court appearance in murdered Kansas moms case

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A man who is accused in the deaths of Jillian Kelley and Veronica Butler made his first court appearance on Wednesday in Texas County, Oklahoma.

Paul Grice, 31, appeared in court to a somewhat sparse crowd as his charges were read. He was previously arrested on two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping and one count of conspiracy to commit murder. During the hearing, he was denied bond.

According to the affidavit of probable cause for Grice’s arrest warrant, during an interview, he admitted that he was a part of the planning, killing and burial of Butler and Kelley.

Grice is expected to return to the courthouse on May 15 with the other four people who have been arrested and charged in connection to the deaths of Butler and Kelley : 54-year-old Tifany Adams, 43-year-old Tad Cullum, 44-year-old Cora Twombly and 50-year-old Cole Twombly.

Grice will get a public defender since he said he can’t afford to hire his own.
