STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. ( WETM ) – Steuben County will be receiving a new grant for Head Start and early Head Start programs from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, as announced by Congressman Nick Langworthy this afternoon.

The grant, totaling $5,190,112 will be used for programs facilitated by Pro Action of Steuben and Yates Inc.

According to Langworthy, these programs give children who come from low-income households the opportunity to receive the early education and developmental support they need to thrive once they get to school.

“I’m thrilled to announce this significant $5 million investment in future generations of Steuben County. Investing in our youngest learners not only sets them up for success in school and beyond but also strengthens our communities and economy in the long run.” said Langworthy.

According to HHS, Head Start programs support children’s growth from when they are born until the age of 5 and are focused on early learning and development, health and family well-being.
