    I-64W in Cabell County back open after crash

    UPDATE: (10:05 p.m. Tuesday, April 30) — All lanes of I-64 westbound are back open, according to Cabell County 911.

    UPDATE: (6:55 P.M. Tuesday, April 30) – A portion of I-64 in Cabell County is still shut down after a multi-vehicle crash this afternoon at the 4.5-mile marker.

    Crews on the scene tell 13 News the crash started when a car hit a pick-up truck while changing lanes. A tractor-trailer then swerved to avoid that crash and got rear-ended by a dump truck. A second heavy truck then came through to avoid that wreck and struck a sidewall of the bridge.

    The dump truck caught fire after the impact, crews say.

    There were no serious injuries, but the bridge will remain closed until it can be inspected for damages.


    UPDATE: (5:50 P.M. Tuesday, April 30) – Cabell County 911 director Nazim Abbess, II, tells WOWK 13 News that all patients involved in a multi-vehicle crash on I-64W in Cabell County refused transport. EMS crews are now leaving the scene, he says.

    According to West Virginia 511 officials, the roadway is still shut down.


    UPDATE: (4:43 P.M. Tuesday, April 30) – Cabell County 911 director Nazim Abbess, II, tells WOWK 13 News the crash on I-64 West involves a dump truck, a tractor-trailer and three or four other vehicles. The dump truck is currently on fire, he says.

    According to Abbess, the crash happened on a bridge, so the a Division of Highways inspector is also responding due to some leakage.

    The Cabell County 911 director also says EMS crews are having a hard time getting to the scene due to traffic congestion and the barriers.

    According to the Wayne County Office of Emergency Management, the Kenova and Ceredo fire departments and Kenova Police Department are en route to provide mutual aid, and drivers should avoid the area “for the next hour or two.”


    CABELL COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – I-64 West is shut down near Huntington due to a multi-vehicle crash.

    According to Cabell County 911 dispatchers, the crash happened just after 4 p.m. near the 4-mile marker, approximately two miles beyond the West Huntington exit. Dispatchers say six vehicles are believed to be involved, and two of those vehicles are on fire.

    Dispatchers say there is no word on any injuries yet.

    The crash has all westbound lanes shut down at this time. The Huntington Fire Department, Huntington Police Department and Cabell County EMS are responding.

    This is a developing story, and WOWK 13 News will update this article as more information becomes available.
