    Top Somerset County spring sports performers for April 29 to May 4

    Athlete of the Week

    Somerset track and field competitor Emily Fisher was voted Daily American Somerset County Female Athlete of the Week while North Star baseball player was selected Male Athlete of the Week for their efforts April 22-27.

    Fisher broke the Somerset Area High School girls record in the 1600 (5:21.68) and 3200 (11:49) at the Northern Bedford Invitational.

    Meanwhile, Turner hit two grand slams to reach 100 career hits and provided nine RBIs in a romp of Ferndale. He also had three hits and four RBIs in a 7-1 win at Southern Fulton. Turner struck out nine in that win.

    Thursday

    Baseball

    Conemaugh Township 3, Portage 0: Zack Petree contributed two hits and an RBI for Conemaugh Township in a shutout of the Mustangs.

    Petree allowed nine hits, three walks and struck out five over six innings. Brennan Lohr earned the save.

    Shanksville-Stonycreek 14, Turkeyfoot Valley 4 (5): Grant Boozer doubled, tripled and drove in three runs for the Vikings in a rout of the Rams.

    Braxton Faidley added two hits and three RBIs for Shanksville.

    Bryce Nicholson, Zack Ryan and Colt Rugg each had a hit for Turkeyfoot.

    Windber 16, Meyersdale 6 (5): Andrew Scalia went 2-for-3, including a double, 3-run home run and three runs scored as the Ramblers toppled the Red Raiders.

    Lucas Oleksa provided two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored while Cole Mash added two hits and three runs scored for Windber. Nathan Betcher added two hits and two RBIs.

    Dylan Teets and Aiden Thomas each went 3-for-3 for Meyersdale.

    Clearfield 6, Somerset 5: Lane Lambert recorded two hits and two RBIs for the Golden Eagles in a narrow setback.

    Callen Miller had two hits and an RBI for Somerset.

    Softball

    Penn Cambria 6, Somerset 3: Savannah Landis tallied two hits and an RBI for the Golden Eagles in a setback to the Panthers.

    Belle Martin and Ava Baumgardner each had an RBI for Somerset.

    Meyersdale 12, Windber 0 (5): Izabella Donaldson tossed a no-hitter, allowing just one walk and struck out 12 in a commanding win for the Red Raiders.

    Donaldson, Zoe Hetz and Laurel Daniels each had two hits and combined for seven RBIs.

    Wednesday

    Baseball

    Somerset 9, Penn Cambria 1: Braeden Flower produced two hits and two RBIs to lead the Golden Eagles past the Panthers.

    Flower allowed one run on six hits and struck out six in a complete game. Zane Hagans and Lane Lambert each tallied two RBIs and Cole Johnson chipped in two hits.

    Southern Fulton 26, Meyersdale 3 (5): Matt Hainsworth had a hit and two RBIs for the Red Raiders in a lopsided loss.

    Softball

    Somerset 3, Shade 2 (10) : Ava Baumgardner recorded three hits, including a double to help the Golden Eagles past the Panthers.

    Skylar Johnston hit a pair of singles, including a game-tying RBI while Riley Wiencek singled and tripled for Somerset. Brooklynn Thomas struck out 17.

    Jaedyn Krupper and Tori Bowers doubled for Shade. Tara Corradini struck out seven.

    Berlin Brothersvalley 13, Fort Hill 1 (5): Elsie Barna and Taylor Hillegass each had three hits and four RBIs for the Mountaineers in a non-conference triumph.

    Coral Prosser, Haylee Speicher, Elena Ritchey and Sydney Walker each had two hits. Walker earned the win in the circle.

    Tennis

    District 5-2A semifinals

    Somerset 3, Tussey Mountain 2: Declan Egal and Josiah Antram, along with the team of Isaac St. Clair and Ben Bowers earned wins in doubles to lift the Golden Eagles over the Titans.

    Tanner Wassilchalk won in singles for Somerset.

    Track and field

    Meyersdale boys sweep, girls split tri-meet:

    The Meyersdale boys bested Conemaugh Township 89-48, and defeated Blacklick Valley 108-27.

    Levi Hersch (400, 300 hurdles, pole vault), and Tristin Ohler (100- and 200-meter dash) picked up multiple wins for the Red Raiders.

    Jackson Sotosky (high jump, long jump, triple jump), Dominick Hanik (1600, 3200) guided Conemaugh Township.

    The Meyersdale girls were upended by Conemaugh Township 82-48, but topped Blacklick Valley 67-54.

    Katrina McCann (discus, javelin) and Layla Overly (100- and 200-meter dash) led the way for Conemaugh Township.

    Aurora Comfort (1600, 3200, pole vault) paced the Red Raiders.

    Track and field

    Berlin Brothersvalley, Windber split: The Berlin girls bested Windber 96.2-53.8.

    Lexi Foor (300 hurdles, javelin), Deborah Bozovich (200 and 400 dash, 1600 relay) led the way for Berlin.

    The Windber boys came away with a 87-61 triumph.

    Joseph McKelvey (1600, 3200), Aidan Shaulis (long jump, triple jump), and Jacob Hill (100 and 300 hurdles) paced the Ramblers.

    Tuesday

    Baseball

    Conemaugh Township 18, Portage 3 (3): Larry Weaver doubled, homered twice and drove in seven runs for Conemaugh Township in a romp of the Mustangs.

    Weaver was also the winning pitcher. Noah Getson and Luke Weber each had two RBIs.

    North Star 15, Berlin Brothersvalley 0 (3): Glendon Griffith tossed a no-hitter as the Cougars clobbered the Mountaineers.

    Griffith also had three RBIs. Connor Yoder tallied three hits and two RBIs. Nolan Weible drove in four runs, and Austin Orris added two RBIs.

    Rockwood 13, Meyersdale 5: Hunter Whipkey recorded three hits and four RBIs to propel the Rockets over the Red Raiders.

    Aaron Show had three hits, three RBIs and scored three runs for Rockwood. Conner Handwerk added a pair of hits and RBIs.

    Dylan Teets contributed three hits, and Bradin Schrock delivered two RBIs for Meyersdale.

    Softball

    Berlin Brothersvalley 22, North Star 5 (3): Elsie Barna, Sydney Walker, Kira Milburn and Elena Ritchey each delivered a multi-hit performance for the Mountaineers in a drubbing of the Cougars.

    Ritchey hit a 3-run homer and earned the win in the circle.

    Meyersdale 11, Rockwood 0 (5): Izabella Donaldson tossed a no-hitter, striking out eight for the Red Raiders in a triumph over the Rockets.

    Laurel Daniels, Donaldson and Marcella Dupre all homered while Isabella Sleasman had three hits and three RBIs.

    Meyersdale 16, Southern Garrett 0 (3): Laurel Daniels provided two hits, including a grand slam and five RBIs for the Red Raiders in a non-conference victory.

    Amber Long homered and drove in three runs. Isabella Sleasman tallied three RBIs while Kendell Donaldson added a pair of RBIs.

    Somerset 12, Greater Johnstown 0 (5): Belle Martin contributed two hits and four RBIs for the Golden Eagles in a commanding win.

    Alexus Miller and Riley Wiencek each singled and doubled in three runs while Elly Fletcher doubled in a pair of runs.

    Baseball

    Claysburg-Kimmel 8, Berlin Brothersvalley 7: Craig Jarvis tallied three hits and an RBI for the Mountaineers in a setback to the Bulldogs.

    Haydon Hutzell, Brady Janidlo and Cooper Huston each provided two hits and an RBI for Berlin.

    Athlete of the Vote for the Daily American Somerset County Athlete of the Week for April 22-27

    Ferndale 5, Turkeyfoot Valley 4: Luke Bowers drove in two runs and Zack Ryan doubled for the Rams in a narrow loss to the Yellow Jackets.

    Bryce Nicholson allowed four earned runs and struck out eight for Turkeyfoot.

    Mountain Ridge 10, Meyersdale 9: Spencer Whitfield recorded three hits, two RBIs and scored two runs for the Red Raiders in a non-conference setback.

    Ryan Sechler drove in two runs, and Karter Schurg added three hits and an RBI for Meyersdale.

    Conemaugh Township 4, Windber 1: Luke Haight hit a 2-run double to help Conemaugh Township past rival Windber.

    Larry Weaver hit an RBI triple and Luke Weber singled home a run. Weber pitched six innings, allowing no runs on three hits, five walks and struck out four.

    Logan Serenko had a hit and an RBI for Windber.

    North Star 5, Shanksville-Stonycreek 1: Parker Scherer contributed two hits and an RBI to lift the Cougars over the Vikings.

    Bryson Durst added two hits for North Star. Braden Livingston allowed one run on two hits, two walks and struck out four over 4⅓ innings.

    Isaac Jamison doubled for Shanksville.

    Somerset 11, Greater Johnstown 1 (5): Callen Miller launched a grand slam and drove in six runs as the Golden Eagles clobbered the Trojans.

    Cole Johnson and Braeden Flower each had a hit and two RBIs. Cameron Nicklow allowed a run on four hits, no walks and struck out four over four innings.

    Softball

    Rockwood 17, Shade 10: Sydney Beals went 3-for-4, including three doubles and five RBIs to propel the Rockets over the Panthers.

    Elika Pletcher recorded three hits, three RBIs and two runs scored for Rockwood. Miley Pletcher and Lilly Hetz each delivered three hits and two RBIs.

    Patty Kovacs and Kaylee Jamison each drove in two runs while Payton Maddy added two hits and two runs scored for Shade.
