WESTOVER — The Somerset County Health Department has ended wet season perc testing for this year.

Perc tests or Land evaluations determine if a property is suitable for on-site sewage disposal and Wet season is determined by checking the groundwater levels within a network of monitoring wells in the county.

These levels have dropped below what is allowed for wet season. Previously submitted applications will be reviewed to determine if they can be tested out of wet season. Eligibility is based on the types of soils present and where the property is located.

Properties that are eligible will have to provide a backhoe to assist with testing. Ineligible properties will receive a letter that their application will be held until next season.

Wet season typically starts during the month of January.

Owners can continue to apply for perc testing for the rest of the year, but each property will be evaluated to determine if it can be completed outside of wet season. Applications are evaluated in the order that they are received and paid for.

For more information, contact the Environmental Health Division at 443-523-1700. The application for a perc test is available to download at: https://somersethealth.org/environmental-health/fees-licenses-permits-applications .
