A parishwide law enforcement district tax renewal in Beauregard that would continue to fund the Sheriff’s Office was overwhelmingly approved by voters on Saturday.

The tax renewal passed with 83 percent in favor — or 1,202-251 — according to unofficial results provided by the Louisiana Secretary of State’s office. The unofficial voter turnout for the election, however, was 6.3 percent.

The tax is expected to collect $4 million a year over a 10-year period.

Voters also approved — with an 11 percent turnout — a 24.36 mills, 10-year road maintenance to be collected by the Beauregard Parish Police Jury. The measure passed with 63 percent in favor — or 34-20.

A 10-year, 6.81 mills fire protection tax for District No. 2 was also approved. Voters passed the measure with 82 percent in favor, or 280-60. The voter turnout on this proposition was just 5.5 percent.
