NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — If you had your eyes Friday on the Long Island Sound, you may have had the chance to see a meteor.

NASA confirmed that the first meteor was spotted at about 10 p.m. Friday. The fireball was first spotted about 50 miles above the Atlantic Ocean, 15 miles from Montauk. It then traveled northwest at 38,500 mph. It broke apart 30 miles above the Long Island Sound.

The fireball was seen in Connecticut, along with Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. A video of the fireball shows it appearing green, before bursting into smaller, white pieces.

If you saw another object in the sky on Saturday night, that was a rocket launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida, according to the American Meteor Society.
