Philadelphia’s fastest growing bagel and coffee shop is expanding with the debut of the first-ever collegiate location coming to Temple University.

Glu Hospitality and co-owners Derek Gibbons and Tim Lu announce the grand opening of Bagels and Co. at 1431 Cecil B. Moore Avenue. Doors opened on Friday, April 26th for an exclusive Temple preview for 20% off all food and drink for any student or faculty with identification between 8:00am and 10:00am. The grand opening will be held on Monday, April 29th with a free bagel and cream cheese giveaway from 8:00am to 10:00am to the first 100 people (open to the community). On Tuesday, April 30th, Bagels and Co. Temple University will host a special finals ‘Study Break’ giveaway with free small coffee from 8:00am to 10:00am for the first 100 Temple students. Free giveaways are one per person, while supplies last.

Bagels and Co. Temple University will serve more than a dozen varieties of Brookly-style bagels, dozens of cream cheese flavors, coffee and matcha drinks, breakfast sandwiches, fruit, yogurt, chia pudding, fresh baked muffins and cookies, and more. Along with the opening comes tasty new offerings, including new Fruity Pebbles Bagels, Spicy Avocado Cream Cheese, Mango Cream Cheese, Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich, Monte Cristo Sandwich, Blueberry Chai Latte, Lavender Matcha, Strawberry Lemonade and Peach Iced Tea. Bagels and Co. Temple University joins other locations in Northern Liberties, Fishtown, Midtown Village, Rittenhouse Square, Brewerytown, Ft. Lauderdale (FL) and Wilton Manors (FL). New locations are coming soon at Penn State, South Philadelphia and other locations to be announced. Glu Hospitality is also bringing The Peabody to Temple University, slated for an opening later this year. Hours for all locations are seven days a week, 7:00am to 3:00pm.

“We are thrilled to open the doors to our first college location for Bagels and Co. at Temple University,” said Gibbons in a statement. “We can’t wait to get the doors open and meet the students, faculty and community neighbors who have been looking forward to this opening. Our team looks forward to getting to know the neighborhood and university, and becoming part of the community.”

Gibbons added, “We originally toured this property two years ago and working closely with the University on their needs. Glu developed two ideas for Bagels and Co. and The Peabody that would fill in the gaps and bring more delicious and diverse options to the campus community. We are very bullish on bringing Bagels & Co. to multiple college campuses and we felt starting in our backyard at Temple U was a great play for us! What better way for students and faculty to start their day with bagels and coffee. We also love the fact we’re next to Liacouras center where tons of sports and events take place. We hope this opening is a win-win for students, faculty and our new neighbors.”

“The intersection of Broad and Cecil B. Moore is a vibrant hub for our students, faculty, staff, and North Philadelphia residents,” said Temple University Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Ken Kaiser. “By bringing this established business to this area, Glu not only enhances the local community but also offers valuable employment opportunities for our students.”

“This initiative marks the first step towards our larger vision of new amenities near the central campus corridor of Broad Street, culminating in the eagerly anticipated opening of The Peabody—a testament to our commitment to enriching both campus life and the surrounding neighborhood,” said Temple University Associate Vice President Business Affairs and Administration Jonathan Reiter.

Bagels and Co. was created in 2021 by Glu Hospitality and features an extensive collection of Brooklyn-style bagels, dozens of cream cheese and spread options, a well-done tight collection of breakfast sandwiches, casual and walkable lunch options, and of course, well-done coffee from D’Amico Coffee Roasters roasted specifically for Bagels and Co. and Glu Hospitality. Bagels and Co. also offers vegan and gluten free offerings and non-dairy spreads, baked goods, deli items, smoothies, yogurt parfaits, fresh juices, frozen non-alcoholic beverages, salads and other cafe items. All Bagels and Co. locations offer take-out, pick-up, breakfast service, lunch service, coffee service and a small grab-and-go section, plus online ordering on major delivery apps.

Temple University location will serve the company’s signature from-scratch Brooklyn-style bagels. Each bagels is soaked in water to make them puffy and crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. For cooking the bagels, Glu had special custom fabricated steam ovens made just Bagels and Co.

Bagels & Co. pairs bagels with an eclectic spread of cream cheese flavors colorfully displayed like gelato in an ice cream parlor. Look for over two dozen (and counting) spread and cream cheese options – including vegan, non-dairy, gluten-free and more.

For coffee, Glu partners with D’Amico for special roasting blends that were designed exclusively for Bagels and Co. Coffee beverages include the standards with a tight menu of well-done drinks – including coffee, espresso, double espresso, cappuccino, latte, matcha, iced coffee, iced latte, iced matcha, red bull cool, Nitro cold brew and more.

Breakfast and lunch sandwiches will be available and made-to-order upon customer request, alongside a menu of signature favorite handhelds. Bagels and Co. proudly serves Boar’s Head Deli Meats.
