WEST VIRGINIA — West Virginia’s most famous K9 is back on all paws.

In recent months, Babydog has had some knee problems.

Governor Jim Justice’s beloved bulldog tore the ACL ligaments in both back legs.

After that, she would still appear with the governor, but she was riding in a wagon.

This week, when she came to the Ohio Valley, she was back in action.

And the governor gave 7News an update on her status.

He said in her first surgery, she was under general anesthetic for three and a half hours.

It’s a big deal and everything. And she’s gotta have the other one done, and gosh, I’m really hesitant about that and everything ’cause you put a bulldog to sleep that long, and it’s a little spooky. And she is a little bit overweight. She takes that from her dad. Nevertheless, she’s doing really good; she’s playing like crazy with our Boston Terrier at our house, and she’s in and out of bed. She’s, she’s doing good.”

The four-year-old bulldog is an undisputed fan favorite.

Wherever the governor goes, he asks children if they’d rather meet him or Babydog, and he always knows the answer.

And by the way, she’s not just a good ambassador with a pretty face–she also has an impressive pedigree.

The governor said Babydog’s father won Best In Show at the Westminster several years ago.
