The New York Jets have made steps to plan for life after Aaron Rodgers , as the AFC East franchise traded up to select quarterback Jordan Travis in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft .

On Saturday, the Jets traded picks No. 185 and No. 190 overall to the Philadelphia Eagles for the rights to move up to No. 171 in the fifth round of the draft. With their acquired selection, the Jets opted to bring in former Florida State star Travis to add to their quarterback room following the Zach Wilson trade.

After six passers were selected during a historic first round on Thursday, Travis became the eighth quarterback to come off the board in the 2024 NFL Draft. He now heads to New York to get shown the ropes by four-time MVP Rodgers .

Travis and the unbeaten Seminoles would likely have stormed to the College Football Playoff last college football season, but the committee controversially decided to overlook the team following his torn ACL in November. As a result of the horrendous injury that prematurely ended his sensational senior campaign, Travis fell to the fifth round.

Travis is expected to be ready to go by training camp, but worries will linger as he makes the transition to the pros. The 6-foot-1 quarterback enjoyed a tremendous collegiate career - and the Jets are hopeful they can unearth his talent in the NFL .

Before his injury, Travis led Florida State to an 11-0 start as he threw for 2,756 yards, 20 touchdowns, and just two interceptions. As a result of his spectacular abilities, he was named ACC Player of the Year and ACC Offensive Player of the Year.

Travis’ 10,554 yards of total offense during his college career is a Florida State record. He is a dual threat with seven rushing touchdowns in four consecutive seasons, allowing him to showcase his escapability and stellar off-platform, backyard-style throws.

The 23-year-old’s athleticism, strength, and intangibles are all positives as the Jets turn to a developmental project. New York needed to add some youth to their depth chart, as Tyrod Taylor is the sole quarterback alongside Rodgers following Wilson’s exit to the Denver Broncos .

Rodgers very much took Wilson under his wing upon completing his blockbuster trade from the Green Bay Packers last offseason, while he spoke highly of how the former second-overall pick would take the reins of the Jets once he retired. But Wilson struggled as he replaced the injured Rodgers, drawing the ire of fans, former players and the media.
