(Des Moines) The National Weather Service issued a Tornado Watch for Adams, Taylor, Ringgold, Union, and central Iowa Counties along and south of Interstate 80.

Strong to severe storms are possible from late afternoon through this evening. All severe weather hazards are possible, but hail and damaging winds are the primary threats.

A Flood Watch is in effect for Cass, Shelby, Harrison, Crawford, Pottawattamie, Mills, Montgomery, Page, and Fremont Counties. Excessive runoff may flood rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may also occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

Recent thunderstorm activity has saturated soils. Additional rainfall, which could be heavy at times, may lead to flooding in urban and low-lying areas.

Showers and storms continue into Sunday, with the potential for more strong to severe storms Sunday afternoon and evening. The extent of the threat and most likely hazards remains uncertain. The chances for showers and storms return Tuesday into Tuesday night and again late in the week. The severe weather threat is uncertain and will be evaluated soon.
