GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — After the resignation of the Berrien County prosecuting attorney, judges are seeking candidates to take over the role.

Prosecutor Steven Pierangeli has resigned effective June 3, according to a Thursday release from the Berrien County Trial Court. The release did not explain why.

Circuit court judges have the ability to fill such vacancies in their counties, the release says. Berrien County judges will accept applications for the office of prosecuting attorney through the close of business on May 17.

Anyone who wants to be considered is asked to submit a letter of interest, a resumé, a writing sample of 10 pages or less and a completed personal questionnaire, which can be found at berriencounty.org/jobs. The materials can be sent to Circuit Court Administrator Carrie Smietanka-Haney at 811 Port St., Saint Joseph, MI 49085.

According to the release, the judges will choose finalists and then conduct public interviews.
