A San Francisco baker is fighting for his life after he was struck by a hit and run driver early Sunday morning at Duboce Avenue and Guerrero Street, KCBS' Shannon Golden reported live from the Western Edition neighborhood.

Jesus Zamudio has been a baker at Bob's Donuts on Baker Street for three years. Rebecca Ahn, whose family owns the business, says Zamudio was riding his scooter to work around 3 a.m. when he was hit and sustained life threatening injuries. The person who hit him sped away.

"He didn't have any identification on him. He was wearing his Bob's Donuts T- shirt and hat and so the FPD called our store," Ahn said.

The team knew who it was immediately, Ahn said, because Zamudio hadn't shown up for work, which just isn't like him.

"He's super reliable, he's a great baker and he's one of our hardest-working employees," Ahn said.

On Monday, staffers started a GoFundMe to cover medical bills and support Zamudio, his wife and two small children back in Mexico. The effort has already raised nearly $30,000. They're hoping to collect $50,000.

" We're just extremely grateful for everyone that has kind of come together and and helped us support his in his recovery," Ahn said.

Police are still working to identify a suspect.
