Floyd County has been selected to participate in the Appalachian Regional Commission’s READY Local Governments initiative. The free training program is designed to help leverage federal funding opportunities for projects that will benefit the community.

The ARC announced on Wednesday the 90 entities in 12 states that were chosen to participate. Whitfield County is the only other Georgia government selected.

READY Local Governments is a nine week, virtual training program that covers project identification and planning, federal grant application development, federal grant regulations and compliance, community engagement in projects, and more.

“ARC’s local government partners have always been the backbone of our on-the-ground work throughout our Appalachian communities,” said ARC Federal Co-Chair Gayle Manchin. “Through our READY Local Governments initiative, we are proud to help these partners enhance their work through training, resources, and expanded support, because when our local communities thrive, the entire Appalachian Region succeeds.”

Following completion of the program, participants will be eligible to apply for up to $50,000 to implement internal capacity-building projects to put their training into practice.

The ARC is an economic development entity of the federal government and 13 state governments focusing on 423 counties across the Appalachian Region. Its mission is to help the region achieve socioeconomic parity with the nation.
