“This service is provided for those who need to rehome pets before considering surrender,” the shelter said in a press release. “Submissions of litters and any other breeder activity is prohibited and will not be accepted.”

It should be noted that this service is only for residents of Weber County. Residents of Weber County can list their pets for free by filling out a rehome submission form on the shelter’s website.

The form asks residents for the following information from owners looking to rehome their pets:

  • Owner’s full name
  • Owner’s address (including city, state and zip code)
  • Owner’s phone number
  • Owner’s email

Owners are asked to provide the following information about their pets:

  • Pet’s name
  • Pet’s breed
  • Pet’s species
  • Pet’s age and gender

Owners are asked to answer the following prompts:

  • Why are you needing to rehome your pet?
  • How long have you owned your pet?
  • Where did you get your pet?
  • Biography of the pet (including information for the new owner to know)
  • Has your pet ever bitten a person?
  • Has your pet ever caused damage to another animal?

Finally, owners are asked to attach an image of the pets they would like to rehome and confirm that they are not a robot.

On the webpage to fill out the form, the shelter said, “Upon submission approval, your first name and phone number will be available for prospective adopters to see.”

The shelter also said it does not take responsibility for the transfer of ownership through the program.

“We value each animal’s life and are dedicated to providing compassion, care and assistance to the animals in our community,” Lieutenant Jackson of the Weber County Sheriff’s Office said. “Rehome Your Pet is one way we can achieve our goal of a no-kill shelter.”
