Over the weekend, the Senior Center of South Pearl River County held its Spring Fling Karaoke Contest, attracting participants and spectators for two days of musical entertainment and community support.

Curated by Charles McClendon, the event held special significance as McClendon shared his motivation behind its inception.

After his wife passed away, McClendon found solace in music and karaoke. He aimed to create an event that celebrated this passion and benefited the Senior Center, which offers much to the community.

With dedication, McClendon sought sponsors and gathered gifts for raffle prizes, supporting the Senior Center. Additionally, proceeds from ticket sales directly contributed to the center’s initiatives.

The contest spanned two days, starting with 25 contestants on Friday and narrowing down to the top 10 by Saturday. Nearly $1000 in prizes awaited the winners, with the top three contestants claiming significant cash awards.

Mark Formby, former Mississippi House Representative and current Mississippi Workers Comp Commission Chairman, MC, was present at the event.

The judging panel included Mayor Jim Luke, Kenny Macdonald, Nathan and Amber Sandercock, and Tina Shelton.

Marisa Riley secured third place, while Stephen Garner took second place. The coveted first-place title went to Katie Lang, earning her a $500 prize.

The Spring Fling Karaoke Contest showcased local talent and underscored the community’s commitment to supporting vital organizations like the South Pearl River County Senior Center.
