OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. (WTRF) — The current West Virginia Delegate in the 4th District is Diana Winzenreid and in the May Primary, she will face off against Bill Flanigan.

Delegate Winzenreid will look to be elected for the first time by the people as she was appointed to the 4th district in June after former delegate Erikka Storch stepped down. Her opponent, Bill Flanigan, formerly served in the House of Delegates in 2016 in the 51st district in Morgantown.

Delegate Winzenreid says her focus will continue to be on various aspects surrounding childcare in the state while Flanigan says he would work on legislation regarding various water issues, and healthcare jobs.

”As far as health care, that’s an industry that we will obviously not get away from. That’s going to help us combat obesity. It’ll help us combat the opioid crisis that we clearly suffer. We have a staggering amount of mental illnesses that is rampant throughout the state. If we can infuse 50 good paying jobs in the hospital, at Wheeling, that’s 50 people that are going to spend their money in the community.”

”Some of the biggest concerns are around child care, specifically the enrollment versus attendance. This is incredibly important to so many providers across the state because the crux of the issue is they have to hold spots and they only get reimbursed if that child attends. And because they can’t fill, that creates an issue for reimbursement and for staffing. I want to understand what’s important that will guide my votes, that will guide the legislation I vote on. I’m here to represent them and I want to do that the best way possible.”
