ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Two people have lost their home and their pet cat remains missing after a house fire in Albemarle County on Friday.

According to Albemarle County Fire Rescue, at about 10:16 a.m. on Friday, April 19, firefighters responded to the 1300 block of Briery Creek Road for report of a house fire.

Units were reportedly at the scene in just under 15 minutes, finding active fire and heavy smoke.

According to the department, one resident was home when the fire began and was able to get out. They reportedly received medical attention at the scene.

However, a pet cat has not been found as of Friday afternoon.

The two people who lived in the home have been forced out by the fire and are currently being helped by family members. According to the department, the Red Cross is also offering them assistance.

“The Albemarle County Fire Marshal’s Office is exploring cooking as a possible cause of the fire,” the department said in a press release. “However, it remains under investigation.”

No other information is available at this time.
