UNION COUNTY, S.D. (KCAU) — Absentee voting for South Dakota’s June primary election is now underway.

As of Friday, April 19, residents have the option of absentee voting in-person or by mailing in a ballot to their respective county auditor’s office. In order to request an absentee ballot, a voter must submit an application form to their auditor. Those forms can be found on the South Dakota Secretary of State’s website .

Union County Auditor Jackie Sieverding reminded voters to check their registration before trying to cast a ballot.

“I think it’s good that people are active and proactive as far as making sure that they are registered, what party they’re registered with before they go in to vote,” Sieverding said. “You can change that registration up to 15 days prior to the election, which would be May 20 at 5 p.m.”

People have until June 3 to vote absentee at the auditor’s office or request an absentee ballot. Polls are open on June 4 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
