Maries County deputy involved in crash

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Maries County deputy was treated and released Friday after a crash on a state highway.

Maries County Sheriff Chris Heitman posted on his Facebook page that the deputy was turning around to pull over a vehicle on Highway 28 at County Road 449 when he turned in front of another vehicle, damaging the driver's door of the deputy's cruiser.

Deputy Clayton Wolfe, 21, was taken to Phelps Health Hospital in Rolla in a private vehicle, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report. The deputy was evaluated because the airbag went off and he complained of a headache but he was released from Phelps Health afterward, the post says. He was wearing a seatbelt.

The other vehicle -- a 2021 Dodge Ram 3500 -- was driven by a 17-year-old boy from Bland, Missouri, according to the report.

Witnesses helped the deputy escape the cruiser through the passenger-side door, Heitman wrote in the post.
