(WFRV) – The Youth Apprenticeship Program continues to grow in Northeast Wisconsin.

Participants are learning valuable skills through paid employment experience while continuing to earn high school and college credits. The program is making local graduates college, career, and community-ready.

In the 23-24 school year, 238 Kewaunee County students have Youth Apprenticeship employment and will earn an estimated $1.35 million dollars.

The team has an 85% retention rate of employers making offers to students for employment after graduation creating a successful employment pipeline for our local workforce.

For Youth Apprenticeship to continue to succeed, the program needs businesses willing to be a YA partner. There are motivated students seeking employment in all career areas, but there is especially high interest in the following:

  • Welding
  • Office Assistant/Human Resources Assistant
  • Agriculture Business, Herd, Mechanic, and Cropping
  • Diesel Technician
  • Manufacturing production, packaging, and assembly
  • Information Technology
  • Business Administrative Assistant

Employers do not have to be located in Kewaunee County to be a YA business partner.

Kewaunee YA is part of a larger consortium, NEWYA which covers 26 area high schools, next year 28 area high schools.

Partnering with the YA program waives many of the “18 and older” requirements allowing our students to be trained earlier, and our employers to gain value in hiring students even before they’re 18! Many of our students have flexible schedules and day-time availability enabling them to be available to work during regular business hours.

Interested employers should e-mail newyainfo@cesa7.org
