DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Authorities are currently investigating thefts at a local airport.

An aviation and flight school company is waiting for answers after a man broke into 11 of its aircraft at Greene County Airport on April 17.

Officials with MacAir say the thief took off with important equipment needed to fly the plane safely. That includes communication and mapping systems that cost between $150,000 and $180,000. This type of equipment is being targeted nationwide.

“The FAA has been seeing this happen at a number of flight schools around the country and there’s a larger operation going on with the theft of avionics from aircraft,” said Ross McNutt, MacAir Aviation President.

MacAir has got most of its aircraft back in the sky today thanks to partners and quick recovery efforts. Anyone with information on the thefts is asked to call the Greene County Sheriff’s Office at (937) 562-5220.
