DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Vermilion County is set to get funding for high-speed, affordable internet through a grant, and an organization is holding a presentation next week to help implement the program successfully.

The presentation on the Broadband Breakthrough program will be held at Danville Area Community College’s Bremer Theater on April 24 at 9 a.m. The Broadband Breakthrough program is run by the University of Illinois Extension and Benton Institute.

Bill Coleman of the Benton Institute will be able to explain the program and answer questions of the grant.

Vermilion Advantage officials say quality internet is vital for rural economies.

“While many take being connected to the world for granted, it is not a tool every home and business has in the rural area of the county and even in some populous cities and villages,” a news release from the organization reads. “This program can be a game changer and real dollars are available when we partner with providers to find ways to meet the needs of our community.”
