Police investigating deadly 3-car crash on Route 3 in King George

KING GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia State Police (VSP) responded to a deadly three-car crash on Route 3 in King George County Wednesday afternoon.

At approximately 3:47 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, state police responded to a three-car crash on Route 3 near Chummy Lane in King George County, which resulted in the death of one driver.

According to police, 73-year-old Michael Arthur McMahan of Westmoreland County was driving a 2016 Jeep Cherokee headed east on Route 3 when he crossed the center line into westbound traffic. This resulted in him hitting a trash truck, the impact caused the Jeep to overturn and hit a tractor-trailer.

McMahan died from his injuries at the scene, police say he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. It is reported that other drivers were not injured in this incident.

This crash is still under investigation by state police.
