Madison County employees to undergo training after cyber scam

MADISON COUNTY, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Madison County employees will begin cybersecurity training after nearly $2.7 million was stolen during a recent cyber scam .

The Madison County Journal reported the training was approved by Madison County supervisors on Monday, April 15. The county will purchase 250 licenses of security awareness training by KnowBe4 for a three-year period. The training will cost nearly $10,000.

The county will also receive 250 licenses of an updated email fishing defense for three years, which will cost more than $7,000.

Madison County lost the $2.7 million in March 2024 after a scammer posed as a representative for a current vendor. The Madison County Board of Supervisors notified law enforcement officials about the scam to launch a national and international investigation.

Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker said on Wednesday that nearly $129,000 has physically been recovered by the county.
