PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Basil sold at Trader Joe’s stores in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut has been linked to a salmonella outbreak.

Twelve people from seven states have been infected with the strain. Seven of the eight cases that had information available reported exposure to the basil.

The Rhode Island Department of Health says an investigation into the multistate outbreak linked infections to Infinite Herbs brand organic basil sold in 2.5-oz clamshell packaging.

Trader Joe’s has voluntarily removed all of the products from their shelves, and it should no longer be available for sale.

Officials are still looking into whether additional products are linked to the illnesses.
