NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — The New Orleans Police Department announced an arrest was made in the case of a double shooting that left two men dead in Central City.

According to officers, around 4:20 a.m. on Thursday, April 18, they were called to the scene of a shooting in the 4000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Upon arrival, officers said they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead on the scene.

NOPD officers said as they were investigating, a man, 22-year-old Ronell Reeder, allegedly surrendered himself to authorities in reference to the shooting. He was reportedly taken in for questioning.

Further investigation led detectives to identify Reeder as the possible shooter.

An arrest warrant has been issued and police say once in custody, Reeder will be booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on two counts of second-degree murder.

NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick arrived at the scene to provide an update on the investigation in which she said the shooting appeared to be a targeted attack.

She added that residents do not have to fear that there is someone in the community shooting at random.

The NOPD has a history with the home, according to Kirkpatrick.
