CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS) — A Charleston attorney, Charles R. “Rusty” Webb of the Webb Law Centre, PLLC, has addressed that the Summers County Board of Education has joined with other County Boards of Education in filing a lawsuit against the technology company META.
Bluefield University is ending the on-campus nursing program The County Boards of Education included are:
- Braxton
- Harrison
- Fayette
- Wayne
- Mercer
- Calhoun
- Monroe
- Pocahontas
- Webster
- Greenbrier
- Wyoming
- Nicholas
This lawsuit is to protect students from addiction of social media and media access to different social media platforms. Most social media platforms such as TikTok, Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram do not have the proper age verification measures in place, which easily allow children to use their products, making parents vulnerable and defenseless when it comes to these platforms. Parents are not able to monitor or limit their children because of the features on these platforms and products.
In April 2021, Frances Haugen a former Facebook employee said that the company had a negative impact on the mental health of younger users of these social media platforms. Instead, Facebook and Instagram hid this vital information from the public eye, marketing products towards teens to increase their profits.
Due to this, School Districts are spending more money for mental health assistance and services for teens and other younger users.
Webb encourages all WV county boards of education who want to be compensated to help these addicted students to contact him.
