The summer of 2024 will be a time for Calvert County swimmers to get their pool fix outdoors. The Edward T. Hall Aquatic Center, which routinely closes every mid-August for maintenance, will have a 44-day period this summer when it is closed to the public.

The Calvert County Department of Parks and Recreation announced last week that the Hall center will be closed for an extended annual maintenance period due to the nature of work being conducted.

It will be closed from July 27 through Sept. 8, county officials stated in a press release.

On July 27, the facility will host the Southern Maryland Swim League Championship swim meet. The maintenance period will immediately follow that event.

“During this time, all pools, including the competition pool, leisure pool and therapy pool, will be drained, repaired and refilled,” the county government press release stated. “Staff will still be present at the front desk during the closure to answer questions and assist with registrations, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. All indoor aquatic center annual passes and punch passes will be valid at Cove Point Pool and Kings Landing Pool during this period.”

After a public hearing last October the county commissioners voted to allocate $1.25 million for planning, design and preliminary work on replacement of the 14-year-old center’s roof and climate control system.

It is not known at this time when that work will take place.

Parks and recreation officials said that the Cove Point Pool in Lusby and Kings Landing Pool in Huntingtown will remain open past Labor Day to accommodate recreational swim activities and practices. Hours of operation for outdoor pools will be released at a later date.
