While several of the team’s riders have already enjoyed competition this year, the season will actually begin this weekend (April 19-20) for Billingsway Arena in Wythe County.
Full rodeos with emphasis on the youth riders will be held Friday night beginning at 7 and Saturday night beginning at 6.
Most of the major rodeo events will be staged including mutton busting, calf riding, chute dogging, calf roping, breakaway roping, goat tying, barrels and poles. However, some changes are being made in the monthly rodeos this year. To focus more on the younger generation of contestants, the series will eliminate the Open/Amateur bulls and Open broncs. Senior steer riding is being added to give the older group a chance to compete in a rough stock event.
Billingsway also will host a Jackpot Series for bulls, broncs and barrels one Sunday a month starting in May. Dates for the event, in conjunction with LTG Bucking Bulls, will be announced later.
For this weekend’s rodeos, admission will be $10 per person or free for five and under. Concessions will be available and there is ample parking space on the grounds.
Following this weekend’s season opener, Billingsway Arena will host the Winter Buckle Series Finals for the IBRA on Saturday, April 27. Several riders represent the Billingsway team in this series and have been doing well heading into the championship round. They have a good chance of taking home several buckles.
Kylie Billings leads the point standings in 1D Open poles, 1D Youth poles and 2D Open barrels.
Cole Moser leads in Pee Wee barrels, 2D Youth poles and 3D Youth poles.
Jeb Cregger leads in 3D Youth barrels.
Billingsway Arena is located at 670 Cinnamon Run (SR652), Wytheville, approximately seven miles north of Speedwell of VA21.
