“As we move forward into spring there are multiple opportunities to support organizations that really make a difference in our communities,” a press release stated. “The May 19 Spring Gala for ‘Our PLACE Adult Day Center’ should be at the top of that list — where supporters will have the opportunity to create more ‘Moments of Joy’ for families and participants facing the challenges of Alzheimer’s and dementia-related illnesses.”

Our PLACE will be hosting its Spring Capital Campaign Fundraiser & Gala on Sunday, May 19, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at The Yacht Club at Tellico Village.

The goal of the Gala is to grow donations in support of the organization’s Capital Fund. The event will provide an evening of fun, fine dining, music and silent auction fundraising, according to the release.

Cocktail attire is requested for the event.

ABOUT ‘OUR PLACE’

Our PLACE is an independent, 501©(3) nonprofit that seeks to improve quality of life by providing a day program of care, social interaction and therapeutic activities in a safe and nurturing environment for adults living with Alzheimer’s or other dementia-related diseases.

“This is an exciting time,” Our PLACE Chairman of the Board Rob McCoy said. “As we enter our third year of operation, we are also completing our Phase I expansion.

“Our phased approach certainly addresses our immediate needs, but does not adequately address the long-term needs of the community. The people of Loudon and Monroe counties have embraced our work and our programs to such an extent … that in order to support future needs, we must begin planning and fundraising for our Phase II expansion now. Events and programs like the Gala are among the ways we’ll do that.”

When you RSVP, there is the option of choosing a signature steak, seafood or vegetarian dinner for the entree. Cocktail hour with hors d’oeuvres will start at 5 p.m. and dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. — with a DJ playing throughout the evening for dancing.

A silent auction will run throughout the evening with larger ticket items to be featured in a live auction.

Tickets are available for $100 per person. Reservations must be made in advance by going to ourplacetn.org. … If paying by check or cash, please see Brandi at Our PLACE.

SERVING ‘A HUGE

NEED’

“It’s such a great opportunity to support the community,” McCoy said. “Our PLACE truly provides participants facing Alzheimer’s or other dementia-related diseases important therapeutic, engagement and socialization programs.

“We also provide an important respite for the caregivers, as well as support groups, education and resources, allowing us to collectively create more ‘Moments of Joy’ for families and participants.”

Jim Dezzutti, Our PLACE’s immediate Past Chairman, said, “When we started the Our PLACE project more than four years ago, none of us were experts in dealing with the various forms of dementia. But we knew there was a huge need for an Adult Day Center in our communities.

“We did the best we could to benchmark our concept against those existing in East Tennessee and, like the disease itself, we have evolved in our thinking and programs.

“The Gala is part of a five-year plan to raise the necessary funding to produce many more ‘Moments of Joy’ for those walking down this path in life and their families.

“Our PLACE exists because of the support of our communities. I hope this support will continue as Our PLACE works to continue to assist our friends, neighbors and family members by donating time or funding to build a much-needed second activity area.”
