Wildfire suppressed on Tiger Cat Flowage

At approximately 5 p.m. Saturday April 13, firefighters responded to a one-acre wildfire on a shoreline hillside covered with brush and woods near a home at 11335 Hummingbird Lane on the southeast shore of the Tiger Cat Flowage.

Responding to the scene were the Town of Round Lake Fire Department with five vehicles and nine firefighters, the Town of Hayward Fire Department with one vehicle and three firefighters and the Winter and Hayward DNR with two trucks and a bulldozer. They put 2,500 gallons of water on the fire and spent three hours on the scene.

Round Lake Fire Chief Mike Schmidt said the fire started when it escaped from an unattended burn pit. The fire threatened the nearby garage and house, but firefighters stopped it before it could damage the structures.
