Cherokee County Schools Earn Digital Citizenship Re-Certification

Three Cherokee County School District schools have earned national digital citizenship recognition, the district announced.

Bascomb Elementary School, Hasty Elementary School Fine Arts Academy and Holly Springs Elementary School STEM Academy all recently earned Common Sense School re-certification from the national nonprofit Common Sense.

Schools earn the certification by demonstrating a strong commitment to teaching students to think critically and use technology responsibly.

The schools' media specialists, Jana Cervone of Bascomb, Rebecca McArthur of Hasty and Maria McCardle of Holly Springs, use Common Sense Education’s resources to help teach students responsible technology use including internet safety, protecting personal privacy, avoiding cyberbullying and understanding plagiarism.

“These schools deserve high praise for giving students the foundational skills they need to compete and succeed in the 21st-century workplace and participate ethically in society at large,” said Liz Kline, vice president of education programs at Common Sense Education. “We applaud them for embracing digital citizenship as an important part of their students’ education.”
