BEMIS, W.Va. (WBOY) — Gold Rush stocking in three areas of Shavers Fork in Randolph County was pushed back to this week.

In a post on its official Facebook page , the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (DNR) said that last week, stream conditions were unsafe, meaning the stockings for the Bemis, lower and upper sections of Shavers Fork needed to be rescheduled to this week.

West Virginia’s Blackwater River among most endangered in America

Last week several areas in north central West Virginia saw flooding with volunteer fire departments in Marion and Ritchie counties needing to perform water rescues and some Salem residents being ordered to evacuate .

For seven years, West Virginia’s Gold Rush has given residents and tourists the chance to win prizes if they catch a marked golden rainbow trout. This year is the DNR’s biggest yet, with more than 50,000 total golden rainbow trout stocked in 68 lakes and streams around the state, 500 of which have a numbered tag. With five times the number of marked fish as the previous year, there are five times more chances to win a one-night stay at a state park or forest cabin or a $25 West Virginia State Parks gift card.
