GULF COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) — One person is dead and another is injured in connection to a shooting investigation in Gulf County.

This case began early Friday morning when 19-year-old John Connor’s family members reported him missing.

“Unfortunately, we received the call shortly after that a family member had located his deceased body here on the property,” Gulf County Sheriff Mike Harrison said.

Deputies arrived at the home off County Road 381 around 7:45 in the morning. At this point, they say it is too early to determine how Connor died. But, deputies said another man showed up at a Panama City hospital with a gunshot wound. Authorities have not released his name or said if he is considered one of the suspects but they believe both incidents are connected.

“We believe there was a group of people here and unfortunately, the injury and the death in this situation,” Harrison said. “Our heart goes out to the family and it’s a local family here of these kids grew up here locally.”

Investigators have not charged anyone. They’re continuing to gather information from people.

“We believe is an isolated incident among people that very well know each other and hope to get to the bottom of it real soon,” Harrison said. “Knowing the family, knowing all the parties that were involved here, from the family side, it makes it especially difficult. Things like this don’t happen every day.”

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s mobile crime lab is gathering evidence and assisting in the investigation. The State Attorney’s Office is also involved in the case.
