MADERA COUNTY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Following their previous announcement of a planned lane shift for northbound Highway 99 in Madera County in March, Caltrans Thursday announced new dates for the closure in April.

According to Caltrans, the northbound lanes of Highway 99 will now be closed for most of the remainder of the year starting the morning of April 17. It was previously announced that the lanes will close starting the morning of April 8.

Caltrans says the same thing will also apply for the opening of the new southbound bridge, which will open with half of its lanes being used for the new northbound traffic switch starting the morning of April 17 instead of the morning of April 8.

The other events for northbound and southbound Highway 99 will remain the same -for northbound Highway 99, the off-ramp to Avenue 12 will be closed for at least six months, and for southbound Highway 99, the off-ramp from eastbound Avenue 12 will remain closed until work is completed on the ramp.

Officials say closures may continue for a longer time, if necessary, due to delays caused by weather or uncontrollable events that may occur.
