Good Friday brings the chance for a few showers up in our northern mountain spots in Pocahontas County with a weak disturbance scooting through – the rest of us will be dry with partly sunny skies. There will be more sunshine the farther south you are and more cloud cover north. It will be a breezy day, adding a little bite to the warmer temperatures with a strong area of high pressure nearby and our area of low pressure strengthening as it heads into New England. That increasing change in pressure will enable wind gusts in excess of 30 mph to be possible as we see highs near 60.

Saturday brings the risk for a few showers, but there will be plenty of dry time, as a warm front scoots through and to our north. We’ll see temperatures jump nicely as a result of the southerly breeze behind that warm front, with highs jumping into the mid 60s. The morning should be mostly dry but the afternoon will feature a few chances for sprinkles.

Easter Sunday looks to remain mild but the chances for showers will be around, especially early, with Saturday’s warm front sliding south as a cold front and stalling during the morning hours. This will give us rain shower chances before lifting back north once again as a warm front for the afternoon, meaning we will be drier Sunday afternoon. Easter will not be a washout, but expect a few showers. It’s a very warm day with a southerly breeze, as highs jump into the mid 60s.

Monday sees Sunday’s warm front slide south and stall over the region as we head into the afternoon. This will give us an increased risk for showers in what looks to be a soggy day at times. Despite the increased clouds and occasional showers, we will be very warm as high temperatures jump into the low 70s! Isolated but locally heavy rainfall cannot be ruled out on Monday.

Tuesday continues with more chances for rain as a strong cold front pushes through. Not only will it be a breezy day, but the potential for severe weather is possible with a line of gusty thunderstorms likely during the late afternoon/evening. Damaging wind gusts will be the biggest threat as we see high temperatures near 70 degrees once again. Even without storms, it will be a windy day, with wind gusts in excess of 40 mph possible.

Wednesday sees our temperatures crash behind Tuesday’s strong cold front. A northwest flow will hold high temperatures down into the 40s, with periods of light drizzle – some light snow showers will mix in over the mountains in what will be a dreary and gloomy day with highs only in the 40s.

Thursday sees the sunshine return after a few morning clouds, but with a northwest flow persisting, temperatures won’t rebound a lot as we will be stuck in the 40s once again for highs.

Looking ahead, temperatures will return to the mid 50s for Friday and back into the 60s for Saturday and Sunday with high pressure in control in what promises to be a warmer pattern developing once again. In addition, this pattern looks drier!

We are in spring forest fire season in West Virginia – this means don’t burn between 7 AM and 5 PM through May 31st. Low humidity values during the daytime, along with breezier and warmer conditions will at times increase the fire threat, hence the burn ban during most of the daytime. Follow all regulations or be faced with potential consequences, such as fines! In Virginia, the spring fire season continues through April 30th – don’t burn before 4 PM.
