PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island’s Department of Environmental Management has announced wild turkey permits go on sale on April 1 as the spring hunting season approaches.

The public hunting season opens on April 25 and runs through May 19. Hunters must have a permit and a valid state hunting license, which can be bought here .

Shooting hours begin 30 minutes before sunrise and last until 1 p.m. The season limit is two bearded turkeys. Any harvested turkeys must be registered within 24 hours of harvest.

The youth hunting season starts April 15 and runs for seven days. It’s open to kids ages 12 to 15, and they must have a junior hunting license (ages 12-14) or a resident hunting license (age 15), along with a spring turkey permit.

Junior hunters are required to be with someone age 21 or older and hold a valid R.I. hunting license.

The paraplegic turkey hunting season runs for two days, starting on April 20. Hunters in that group need a spring turkey permit and have a permanent disability hunting license.
