CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Chesterfield County man is not only recovering after being hit by a driver Monday, but also grieving the loss of his wife.
The Chesterfield County Police Department said that 22-year-old Daniel Anderson intentionally steered his car toward Derek Bizzell and his wife, Shaunda, along Amherst Ridge Loop on the evening of Monday, March 25.
“[The impact] knocked me under the car. My first instinct was to get up and call 911. I couldn’t talk to 911, so somebody took my phone for me and communicated where we were at and what happened,” Bizzell said.
He said they were both injured and taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries. But Shaunda, his wife of over eight years, didn’t make it.
“She was just an excellent person, it’s real hard right now for her not to be here,” Bizzell said. “She was just an all-around great person, someone who always had a beautiful smile on her face. No matter the day of the week, her smile was always beautiful, her laugh was infectious. She was just someone that everyone loved.”
According to the Chesterfield County Police Department, around 6:55 p.m. on Monday, March 25, police responded to the 2700 block of Amherst Ridge Loop for a report of a “suspicious call.”
According to police, 22-year-old Daniel N. Anderson called the Emergency Communications Center (ECC) and made multiple threatening statements, such as threats to shoot a school, bomb a building and assault police officers.
Officers identified the driver of the car as Anderson. He was not injured in the crash and was taken into custody at the scene. Although police said Anderson lived in the neighborhood, Bizzell said he didn’t know him.
Bizzell told 8News he and his wife had two children, both of whom are now mourning their mother’s death. He added the fact that police believe the crash was intentional “hurts even more.”
