Portage County inspections: One restaurant receives 17 violations and requires reinspection

The following are the latest results of Portage County Health Department inspections on licensed food establishments and other types of businesses, which the Stevens Point Journal reports monthly.

Custer

  • Ellis Inn, 6804 State 66: Feb. 8: Four violations: Bar dish machine not in working order; handwashing sink in men's room not non-hand operated; floor and wall juncture in a few areas of kitchen not coved; several wall surfaces in kitchen not smooth or easily cleanable.
  • JR's Saloon, 7404 Portage County Z: Feb. 1: No violation.
  • Kelly's Pub & Grill, 7214 Custer Road: Feb. 14: Four violations: No air gap on ice machine drain line at bar; no consumer advisory on menu; no irreversible registering thermometer for measuring surface temperatures in hot water ware washing operation; metered handwashing sink in kitchen and basement operating incorrectly.

Junction City

  • Bunny Hop Cafe, 601 Main St.: Feb. 22: Four violations: Employee handling toast with bare hands (corrected during inspection); chlorine sanitizer not used according to label instructions (corrected during inspection); drinking cup without cover observed in food preparation area; soup spoons stored in a container where the food contact surface could be contaminated (corrected during inspection).

Plover

  • 5 Star Lanes & Family Fun Center, 1960 Post Road: Feb. 5: Five violations: Chlorine sanitizer spray not used according to label instructions (corrected during inspection); spray bottle of mold killer stored on shelf directly above clean dishes (corrected during inspection); no thermometer for monitoring temperatures in thin mass foods, such as hamburger patties; can opener dirty; vent hood over fryer dirty.
  • Best Western Plover-Stevens Point Hotel & Conference Center, 5253 Harding Ave.: Feb. 13: One violation: No certified food manager for establishment.
  • Burger King No. 9280, 1750 Portage County B: Feb. 29: Three violations: Food establishment does not have procedures that address responding to vomiting or diarrheal events; hood above fryer and sides of fryer dirty; current food establishment permit not posted in a conspicuous area.
  • Doug's Sports Bar, 6225 State 54: Feb. 27: Six violations: Carton of eggs stored above jars of pickles in refrigerator; no test kit for monitoring sanitizer concentration; walls, ceiling, door and door frame of walk-in cooler made of unsealed plywood; surfaces of pizza ovens dirty; cavity of microwave dirty; bottom shelf of three-door bar fridge has standing liquid and dirty.
  • Lucke's, 3252 Mecca Drive: Feb. 22: Two violations: Spray bottle of blue cleaner not labeled with common name of product; posted retail food establishment permit expired in 2023.
  • McDonald's Restaurant, 2601 Plover Road: Feb. 26: Three violations: Establishment does not have procedures that address responding to vomiting or diarrheal events; top of dish machine dirty; handwashing sink near ice cream machine not hands free.
  • Mr. Brews Taphouse, 2012 Portage County HH, Plover: Feb. 5: Two violations: Automatic handwashing sink in kitchen has low flow of water; wall behind ware-washing sink and adjacent to the sink have several damaged areas.
  • Samoeun's Happy Wok, 1540 Plover Road: Feb. 6: 10 violations: Three cases of raw shell eggs not held at proper temperature (corrected during inspection); sanitizer for the dish machine not being used according to label instructions (corrected during inspection); sanitizer spray bottles not used according to label directions (corrected during inspection); test kit for measuring sanitizer concentrations expired; food protection manager's certificate expired Nov. 19, 2023; containers with no handles in bins of sugar and MSG (corrected during inspection); part of hood system's filters not in place above cook line; two-door reach-in cooler in kitchen not at proper temperature (corrected during inspection); several light bulbs not in operation in kitchen ceiling lights; ceiling tiles in kitchen dirty. Reinspection: Feb. 7: Four violations: Food protection manager's certificate expired Nov. 19, 2023; part of hood system's filters not in place above the cook's line; several light bulbs not in operation in kitchen ceiling lights; ceiling tiles in kitchen dirty.

Stevens Point

  • Airport Bar, 4 Park Ridge Drive: Feb. 5: No violations.
  • Arby's No. 6984, 5700 U.S. 10 E.: Feb. 1: One violation: Kitchen flooring under cooking equipment dirty.
  • Columbus Club of Stevens Point, 401 W. Clark St.: Feb. 7: No violations.
  • Dewendy's Pub, 1408 Portage County HH West: Feb. 22: No violations.
  • Final Score, 908 Maria Drive: Feb. 23: 11 violations: Employee handling sliced cheese with bare hands (corrected during inspection); sanitizer not used according to label instructions (corrected during inspection); consumer advisory missing disclosure statement; drip plate of ice machine dirty; water at kitchen handwashing sink not under pressure; soap not available at employee handwashing sink in kitchen (corrected during inspection); knives improperly stored in crack between prep cooler and prep table; sides of grill and fryer dirty; walk-in cooler condenser fans dusty; men's toilet room not provided with a tight fitting, self-closing door; employee's container of nicotine pouches improperly stored in kitchen on a shelf above food preparation.
  • Graffiti's Sports Pub, 912 A. Main St.: Feb. 8: No violations.
  • Mak's Bar, 1236 Portage County HH W.: Feb. 29: One violation: Interior of ice machine dirty.
  • Moreys Bar, 3601 E. Maria: Feb. 21: One violation: Ice scoop improperly stored with handle in contact with ice.
  • Noodles & Company, 101 Division St. Suite C: Feb. 6: No violations.
  • North Point Pub, 348 Second St. N.: Feb. 21: No violations.
  • Park Ridge Cafe, 3425 Church St.: Feb. 7: 17 violations: Cooked rice and cooked egg noodles not held at proper temperature (corrected during inspection); wiping cloths at main cook/prep line not stored at proper sanitizer concentration (corrected during inspection); no date marking system in place for ready-to-eat foods held in coolers longer than 24 hours; piercing tip of table-mounted can opener is dirty; wall mounted potato slicer is dirty (corrected during inspection); no approved certified food manager for establishment; uncovered and unwrapped foods stored in walk-in cooler and prep line cooler; ice cream scoops improperly stored in a container of standing water on countertop; bowls and cups used to dispense soup base from bulk storage containers are stored directly in the food (corrected during inspection); wiping cloths used for wiping surfaces are stored on the countertops (corrected during inspection); thermometers are missing from the prep line cooler and the ice cream freezer; pie cooler is not at proper temperature; top door of the ice cream/pizza freezer is not in good repair; juice machine located at the wait station is not in good repair; door handles to the upright cooler are not in good repair; plastic single-use food containers are being reused to hold foods at the steam table (corrected during inspection); flooring under the cookline requires cleaning to remove accumulated food, debris and grease.   • Rookies Sports Pub, 3425 Church St.: Feb. 7: No violations.
  • Skipp's Bowling Center, 2300 Strongs Ave.: Feb. 6: Three violations: Pizza oven racks dirty; walk-in cooler not at proper temperature; single-use articles improperly stored on floor of the back room.
  • Stevens Point Fairfield Inn & Suites, 5317 U.S. 10 E.: Feb. 15: One violation: Hard cooked eggs not held at proper temperature (corrected during inspection).
  • St. Joseph Parish, 1709 Wyatt Ave.: Feb. 9: No violations.
  • Subway No. 106, 135 N. Division St.: Feb. 12: No violations.
  • Subway No. 107-Park Ridge, 32 Park Ridge Drive: Feb. 27: No violations.
  • The Waters Pub & Pier, 736 Old Wausau Road: Feb. 17: No violations.
  • UWSP Lower Debot Dining Service, 325 Isadore St.: Feb. 13: No violations.
  • UWSP Upper Debot Dining Center, 325 Isadore St.: Feb. 13: Two violations: Upright cooler not at proper temperature because plastic cover is obstructing fan (corrected during inspection); chemical spray bottles in dishroom not labeled with name of product (corrected during inspection).
  • Wissota Chophouse, 1117 Center Point Drive: Feb. 22: Two violations: Test kit not available for testing sanitizer concentration; hollandaise and bearnaise sauces not held in the countertop food warmer in the original manufacturer's single service containers (corrected during inspection).
