The father of The Handmaid's Tale star Elisabeth Moss has died. Ron Moss was 79. He reportedly died peacefully with his loved ones by his side in his Clearwater, Florida, home on Thursday night, his grandson Max said, per TMZ . He had been diagnosed with an infection shortly before his death.

Paying tribute to the professional musician, Max wrote, "Ron made so many friends throughout his rich life and we want everyone to know that you all meant so much to him. Thank you for everything that any of you did for him throughout his life."

After being born in the U.K., Ron and his former wife Linda settled in Los Angeles to raise Elisabeth and son Derek.

As a professional trombone player, Moss was previously in a Jazz band with Ron Miscavige, whose son David Miscavige is the leader of Scientology. The late musician practiced the religion, along with Elisabeth. He was also the manager for artists like Chick Corea, who is Elisabeth's godfather, and Isaac Hayes.

In a 2016 interview with The Guardian , Moss recalled tagging along with Ron for musical adventures.

She recalled that he was "always on tour with clients. My earliest memories are at the Blue Note here in New York, or backstage at different theatres or different clubs, dressing rooms."

"We grew up with musicians coming over, jamming," she continued. "We had tons of instruments. So holidays were always like, 50 people would come over and there would be a jam session with everyone playing jazz."

It's not clear how close Elisabeth was with her father when he died.
