A group of anonymous campaign staffers for President Joe Biden penned a letter on Wednesday urging the president to change his stance on the Israel-Hamas war.

The 17 staffers urged the commander-in-chief to push for a permanent ceasefire to end the deadly conflict, according to Politico’s West Wing Playbook .

Moreover, the anonymous aides encouraged Biden to end unconditional military support for Israel while also demanding de-escalation in Gaza.

“As your staff, we believe it is both a moral and electoral imperative for you to publicly call for a cessation of violence,” the staffers wrote. “Complicity in the death of over 20,000 Palestinians, 8,200 of whom are children, simply cannot be justified.”

The staffers also warned that Biden could lose the presidency to Donald Trump if he does not change his position while also claiming campaign volunteers have “quit in droves” over the conflict.

“Your administration’s response to Israel’s indiscriminate bombing in Gaza has been fundamentally antithetical to those values — and we believe it could cost you the 2024 election,” the staffers added.

“Biden for President staff have seen volunteers quit in droves, and people who have voted blue for decades feel uncertain about doing so for the first time ever, because of this conflict. It is not enough to merely be the alternative to Donald Trump. The campaign has to shift the feeling in the pits of voters’ stomachs, the same feeling that weighs on us every day as we fight for your reelection,” the anonymous staffers wrote.

An anonymous campaign official responded to the letter by noting that Biden’s position on Israel is “unequivocal” and will not change.

“When it comes to President Biden’s position, he has been unequivocal: Israel has a right and obligation to defend its people after the October 7 terrorist attack,” the official told Politico. “He also knows the importance of earning the trust of every community, which is why he is working closely and proudly with leaders in the Jewish, Muslim and Palestinian communities in America.”

Following the letter’s release, Tariq Habash , a political appointee at the Department of Education, announced his resignation Wednesday due to the president’s stance on the Israel-Hamas War , further emphasizing the divide within the Biden administration, according to the Washington Post . In November, more than 500 officials in the Biden administration signed a letter criticizing his policies toward Israel.
