Another business has announced layoffs in New Jersey, with Ferring Pharmaceuticals filing a WARN notice.

Under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, an employer with more than 100 full-time workers must provide a 60-day notice before laying off 50 or more people at a single site.

Ferring Pharmaceuticals filed a WARN act last week with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development advising that 79 staff in Parsippany will lose their jobs in February. The 25-acre facility in New Jersey currently employs 500 workers across a variety of functions.

It is anticipated the actual number of people will end up being less than the official number on the WARN notice.

"Ferring Pharmaceuticals (US) has optimized resources to align with its revised business strategy. The roles that were eliminated include employees located around the country reporting to our Parsippany, NJ office. We anticipate that a number of these employees will be redeployed, which will result in a limited number of actual job reductions." Company statement

The company has also filed a WARN notice advising of layoffs in Minnesota.

    New Jersey layoffs

This latest layoff filing adds to the growing list of workers losing jobs in New Jersey. Last month, several businesses announced job cuts.

    • Labcorp is laying off 239 employees in Somerset.
    • Finance giant Charles Schwab is cutting 109 employees in Jersey City in February.
    • John Wiley & Sons will lay off 103 staff in Hoboken in January and February.
    • Ahold Ecommerce Sales Company, a service provider to Stop & Shop, operates a state-of-the-art automated warehouse in Jersey City, and they have advised that 454 employees will lose their jobs on March 1, 2024.
    • Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics provides clinical diagnostic services and therapeutic systems, and they will be laying off 300 staff at a facility in Morris.
