A set of new rumors seem to suggest the New York Jets could decide to trade free agent addition Dalvin Cook before the NFL trade deadline later this month.

Weeks before the start of the 2023 NFL regular season, there was a great deal of speculation about the future of Dalvin Cook. The four-time Pro Bowler was seen as a game-changer addition for any time willing to shell out the cash necessary to acquire his services.

In the end, the lure of playing with Aaron Rodgers — and $7 million — was enough to help the New York Jets land the talented running back. However, with Rodgers possibly out for the rest of the season and the rise of 2022 rookie Breece Hall, it seems that Cook may now be expendable.

Heading into Week 6, Cook is only averaging 7.2 carries per game and 3.8 yards per rush. Unfortunately, the 28-year-old has not delivered the same numbers he has in the past, and with the Jets reportedly willing to wheel and deal before the NFL trade deadline, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported on Sunday that Cook could be up for grabs.

Furthering that idea, ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini also claimed “Some teams are curious to see what” the team does with Cook before Oct. 31. While the $3.9 million he has left on his deal this season is a hefty price, let’s take a look at five times that might be willing to take that risk to see if they can galvanize a midseason resurgence from the star running back.

    Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys offense has not been nearly as formidable this season as it was last year. Part of that could be placed on the up-and-down play of quarterback Dak Prescott , however, the lack of a two-headed running back machine surely has had an effect.

Pro Bowler Tony Pollard was at his best last year when in a combo with Ezekiel Elliott. Perhaps bringing in Cook, a player closer to his prime than Elliott, could get Dallas back to being the force they were offensively in 2022.

    Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns lost star running back Nick Chubb for the season last month and replaced him with veteran Kareem Hunt. Hunt will not be able to replace Chubb on his own, but being combined with Cook, on paper, seems like a great combo that would give QB Deshaun Watson a lot more help on offense when he returns from his shoulder injury.

    Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been one of the surprise teams this season as Baker Mayfield is playing at an all-time high. However, their running game is atrocious and one of the worst in the league. The team is a contender in the always-weak NFC South and Cook could be the type of player that helps strengthen their chances of winning another division title in 2023.

    Houston Texans

CJ Stroud has been outstanding in his rookie season with the Houston Texans. Unfortunately, he is not getting much help, outside of wide receiver Nico Collins. Like the Bucs, they also desperately need help in the backfield and a long-time star with something to prove could be a perfect fit.

    Los Angeles Rams

Similar to the Bucs, the Los Angeles Rams have been one of the big surprises this season due to a highly effective pass game. The same can’t be said for their running game. Cook would certainly be an upgrade over Kyren Williams and could be motivated back to his peak by being in the heat of a division title run out west.
