Lively Mexican restaurant planned for 1886 building in downtown St. Cloud

Mariachi, margaritas, street tacos and more are coming soon to downtown St. Cloud .

Local resident Mayra Gasca recently took over the former Searle's on Fifth building, where she plans to open Tequilatown Club & Cuisine.

The new restaurant, which will focus on Mexican and Dominican cuisine, will serve nachos, street tacos, chimichangas and other casual dishes alongside a vast drinks menu, Gasca told the St. Cloud City Council this week.

"This is really exciting to bring Mexican food downtown St. Cloud," said Council Member Carol Lewis.

The arrival of Tequilatown Club & Cuisine will end a long vacancy for three-story, 1886 building on 5th Avenue.

Previous restaurants in the space have included D.B. Searle's, which closed in 2018, and Searles on Fifth, which closed in May of 2022.

During Monday's City Council meeting, Council Member Karen Larson expressed hope that the new restaurant will bring other new businesses to downtown.

"In the context of downtown redevelopment, this is a stroke in the right direction," she said.
