Northeast Colorado is expected to experience hazardous winter weather conditions with strong winds and snowfall, as warned by the National Weather Service. A strong winter weather system is approaching, and snow and strong winds are expected in the region through Wednesday. A winter weather advisory has been issued, and residents are advised to prepare for the storm which could cause travel impacts.

Northeast and north central Colorado residents should be aware of hazardous weather conditions this week, as detailed in a statement from the National Weather Service Denver/Boulder CO. The statement, issued on Monday, February 13, 2023, warns of light snowfall across the mountains later that day and into the night, with accumulations of 1-3 inches expected. It also advises of gusty westerly downsloping winds developing in the mountains and foothills, with gusts of up to 50 mph possible.

The statement goes on to predict that gusty westerly winds will increase on Tuesday and Wednesday, with gusts of up to 65 mph expected in higher mountain areas and exposed east slopes. Strong winds will also develop across the far northeast plains on Tuesday, with gusts of up to 50 mph.

A stronger weather system is anticipated to bring snow to the area on Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday evening, with snow accumulations predicted to be between 4-8 inches over the Palmer Divide and east-central plains, 3-6 inches in the Denver metro, and 1-4 inches north of Denver and across the northeast plains. The statement cautions that travel impacts will be significant along and south of I-70, with lower impacts towards the Wyoming/Colorado border.

The National Weather Service is actively monitoring the weather patterns, exercising due diligence to ensure the safety of citizens. Should the situation demand it, updates and warnings will be issued in a timely manner, enabling the public to make informed decisions in response to potential weather-related hazards.
