Severe weather is expected to hit the US later this week, with thunderstorms and tornadoes predicted to sweep through the Midwest and Southeast. The National Weather Service has issued a severe weather outlook for several states in the region, including Alabama, where forecasters predict that the storm system will hit on Thursday.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham, Alabama has predicted showers and thunderstorms for Central Alabama starting Thursday afternoon. The weather is expected to remain stable through Tuesday with low-level ridging across the Gulf Coast. However, a potent upper-level low situated across the Desert Southwest will move towards the Middle and Lower Mississippi Valley, increasing the presence of clouds and rain showers in northwest counties of Alabama.

The threat of severe weather on Wednesday is very limited spatially and is expected to remain marginal. However, the focus of messaging in the coming days will be on Thursday’s event, which is expected to bring moderate-to-heavy showers and thunderstorms to the region. The National Weather Service has urged residents to remain alert and prepare for any non-zero threat of tornadoes, regardless of the severity level.

The storm is expected to move into Alabama from the northwest on Thursday morning and intensify as it moves east throughout the day. The system will bring heavy rain, thunderstorms, and the possibility of tornadoes, with the most significant threat for severe weather coming in the late afternoon and early evening.

According to the weather service, the severe weather threat on Thursday is very marginal, although it should still be taken seriously. Any severe threat should be taken seriously, especially one that includes a threat of tornadoes. People should prepare for any non-zero threat in the same way, regardless of the numbers or colors associated with it. After Thursday, the weather is expected to turn cold and dry, with a building upper ridge helping to start the moderating trend and moisture return process over the weekend into early next week.

Note that the National Weather Service has not yet issued any watches or warnings for Alabama, but residents in the region are urged to stay aware of changing weather conditions and be prepared for any potential severe weather events. The National Weather Service is continuing to monitor the storm system and will issue updates and warnings as needed.
