88-Year-Old Killed in Collision with Semi

Newton County, MO: An 88-year-old woman was killed in a collision with a semi on Monday, Jan. 24, around 3:10 p.m. on Route M in Newton County.

Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the woman, who was driving a 2013 Toyota Avalon northbound on Route M, pulled into the path of the semi traveling eastbound when the collision occurred. The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene by Newton County Coroner Dale Owens, according to the MSHP crash report.

The victim of the crash has been identified by authorities as Bettie L. Rowe, 88, of Stella, MO. The driver of the semi was not injured.

As required by law, the surviving driver was tested for impairment, according to MSHP. Granby Fire Department, Newton County Sheriff's office, Newton County Ambulance and Missouri State Highway Patrol all assisted with this incident.

Missouri State Highway Patrol will conduct an investigation of the collision.
